The well-known Burmis tree on the Crowsnest Highway is 750 years old. It finally died in the 1970’s, losing its needles, but after the locals rallied for its preservation it was proclaimed a heritage site and so the new highway at the time was built around it. It was toppled by wind and restored, it has suffered damage but is still standing. After a number of people had requested this image, I stopped to photograph it while on my road trip to BC.
